"Inside/Outside: Through the Lens of Bill Maris and Julie Semel has been curated by graduate students in the School of Information at Pratt Institute as the culmination of our work in LIS-665, Projects in Digital Archives. This website presents four exhibits to showcase Maris and Semel’s photography reflecting trends in architecture from the late 1960s to the 1990s. Our sources provide more information about these trends.
The modern history of architecture originated when photographs of buildings became available to scholars. While photographs did not create the discipline, scholars have been able to develop more advanced research methods not possible using only drawings and prints. We encourage you to explore the online exhibition on this site and to use the finding aid for historical research and interpretation.
